Colin Smith began his deejay career in the spring of 1982, influenced by the birth of Hip-Hop culture, MTV and an adoration for all genres of music. As a high school youth, he became a highly requested deejay while exploiting his talents as a music producer. Immediately after high school, he was presented with an opportunity as a college radio deejay at WESU FM at Wesleyan University, where he completed a 15-year tenure as a disc jockey and community volunteer liaison. He also performed as a deejay at numerous college and commercial radio stations throughout the New England area. As one of the state’s most sought-after self-taught DJ/Producers, Colin “DJDEEM” Smith has built a respectable reputation as a professional deejay and notable music producer traveling throughout the state of Connecticut, to Washington, DC and Las Vegas. In 1990, Blue Chip Entertainment was created, spotlighting DJDEEM’s high level of quality in deejay entertainment for weddings, private parties, concerts, corporate, government and non-profit events. He also specializes in special event lighting décor through the use of high-powered LED lights. Some of the more notable organizations and events he has played for include NY Fashion Week, CT Men & Women for Justice, Inc, Chocolate & Cheesecake, True Colors, Inc., Legacy Foundation, Little Black Dress, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Taste Makers Record Pool, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Eastern Regional Conference, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc, Phi Beta Sigma, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., WESU FM, Raymour & Flanigan and The Links, Incorporated and most recently the first annual Le Diner en Blanc Hartford.
De 4 Ahwee & Co
Steel Pan Band
De 4 Ahwee & Co. is a steel band which features a lead tenor pan that plays the melody, joined by two sets of double second pans, guitar pans that create harmonic accompaniment in lower registers. The steel band is supported by, electric bass and the rhythm is rounded out with drums and percussion. The band began as a four member band (which is referenced in the name), but expanded in 2006 to a seven member band. De 4 Ahwee & Co. performs different genres of music which includes calypso, soca, reggae, gospel, Latin, and R&B. The melodies from the past and present which are performed for their audiences are delivered in a way to provide the sounds of the Caribbean. De 4 Ahwee & Co. has performed for: Weddings, Festivals, Corporate Events, and many more.
Noluthando, Mellissa Craig
Ms. Craig is a first generation American; born into Jamaican parents. She is an accomplished dancer in Modern, African, and Caribbean folk forms, as well as a trained stilt walker. She is a native of Hartford, CT and a graduate of Trinity College. For the past 10 years, she has been building a career as a dancer, performer and instructor in the Greater Hartford area. Ms. Craig is currently employed by the Capital Region Education Council (CREC) as a Core Faculty member at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle and High Schools. There, she teaches, dance, theater and stilt walking and also acts as a consultant, and curriculum development contributor. Mellissa is a current company member and teaching artist for 3 professional companies: The Judy Dworin Performance Project, Island Reflections Dance TheatreCompany and FriendZWorldMusic. She has enjoyed great deal of success performing and touring throughout Connecticut and abroad. She is the proud mother of one son, DeAndre, and has plans for the future to one day open her own stilt walking company in the Hartford area. Mellissa’s personal philosophy: “I am dedicated to using the arts to make the world a brighter and more enlightened place to live.”
